Eye Exams for Adults

If you wear corrective lenses, whether glasses or contact lenses, it’s advisable to undergo an annual eye exam, as recommended by The American Optometric Association (AOA). For those without vision correction needs, regular eye exams every two to three years are essential until the age of 40. If risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, or other health conditions are present, more frequent eye assessments are strongly encouraged.

Once you cross the age of 40, common age-related eye issues such as macular degeneration, cataracts, and presbyopia may arise. To catch potential symptoms at an early stage, we suggest scheduling an eye exam every one to two years. Given that the risk of eye diseases increases with age, annual exams become crucial for all adults over 60.

Eye Exams for Infants and Children

The AOA recommends specific guidelines for pediatric eye exams. Children should have their first eye examination at 6 months old, followed by assessments at 3 years of age and before starting school.

Your child’s initial eye exam may be conducted by your pediatrician or family physician. If any concerns are raised, a referral to a qualified optometrist or ophthalmologist with specialized equipment and training may be recommended.

For school-aged children without risk factors or vision problems, scheduling an eye exam every two years is the standard. However, if any issues are identified, more frequent exams are advised, with the AOA recommending annual check-ups or as per your eye doctor’s guidance.

Vision and Learning

Children who wear eyeglasses or contact lenses should undergo eye examinations at least once a year, following the AOA’s recommendation. The same annual eye exam is also suggested for adults with vision correction needs. Even if you don’t typically require vision correction, biennial to triennial eye exams up to age 40 are vital, taking into account your rate of visual change and overall health.

For individuals with conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, or other disorders that can impact vision and eye health, doctors often recommend more frequent examinations.

At All Eyes On You, we employ state-of-the-art technologies to provide comprehensive eye exams tailored to your age and unique needs. For those aged 40 and over, we encourage regular eye exams every one to two years to monitor common age-related eye issues such as presbyopia, cataracts, and macular degeneration. Given that the risk of eye disease escalates with age, everyone over 60 should schedule an annual eye exam to safeguard their eye health. Your vision matters, and we’re here to help you maintain it for a lifetime.
